The staff, and their clothing, will also be a draw to the restaurant and help to create the brand identity.

There will be an emphasis on diners sharing foods and sharing drinks. This will be reflected in the menu and the way the food is served.

Do not expect the food to stand up to Michelin scrutiny, but it should be a place everyone visiting the Playa de Las Americas (PdLA) and/or Los Cristianos (LC) area should know about and recommend to friends.

Target Audience

To be based in the South of Tenerife, there is the ideal mix of target audience for the proposed restaurant.

British Tourists’ expectations have changed significantly in the last 10-20 years. As people spend more money on food outlets in the UK, and hold those restaurants to higher standards, so they expect these higher standards when they are on their holidays. The proportion of household income spent on eating out has actually increased during the recession. Between 2007 and 2011, fast food sales grew 7.9 per cent in the UK. This and the fact that the number of Easyjet and Ryanair passengers has increased means despite difficult economic times the food, bar and travel industries have continued to grow.

Tenerife is starting to provide restaurants to match people’s wants, for example Safari Center etc. There is still a big gap between many of the convenient restaurants servicing the high foot-fall areas along the beach and resort areas where this is not the case.

There are many examples of the same restaurant appearing right next to one another doing the same offers and same dining experience. For the tourists this restaurant will be something new, something different and somewhere they will always re-visit on their return trips; not because it is the best restaurant in Tenerife, but because they like it, it is convenient, and it has a reputation.

Similarly there are few restaurants in the PdLA and LC areas that the resident Spanish community regularly visit amongst the (mainly British) tourists. This should be a target for the business.

SENTIMENT

“The tacos: They’re good…”,

“I like the décor: it is hip/cool, not your usual in Tenerife, and definitely not snobbish”,

“The food is casual, the beers are not expensive, and the tequila is strong!”

“We went for the food which was cheap and really nice, and we stayed for the atmosphere”
